Powering pessaries and pelvic floor exercises

Sister brand, Squeezy, the award-winning pelvic floor muscle exercise app, has announced the first in a series of donations in support of an innovative new NHS pelvic health programme at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.

10% of Squeezy profits have been donated to help increase the varieties of pessaries available as treatment for pelvic organ prolapse.

“At a time when the NHS is under so much pressure, it’s great to be involved with a project that’s helping fund such a forward-thinking and empowering initiative,” says Myra Robson Senior Pelvic Health Physiotherapist at Lewisham Hospital and clinical advisor on Squeezy.

“Pessaries give women with prolapse a viable alternative to surgery and the NHS a more cost-effective treatment. For the cost of one prolapse operation (with a 20-30% recurrence rate), the NHS could supply hundreds of pessaries. The potential cost saving is exponential and we are now in a position of offering a much greater range of pessaries thanks to Squeezy.”

Launched in 2013, Squeezy app was developed as an aid for pelvic floor muscle exercises, a NICE recommended first-line treatment for stress urinary incontinence and beneficial in other pelvic floor conditions such as prolapse. Although not widely discussed, at least one in three women will experience urinary leakage at some point in their lives and half of all women will have some degree of pelvic organ prolapse.

Squeezy’s aim has been to support women with a pelvic floor muscle exercise programme (also known as Kegel exercises) and adhere to their recommended personalised exercise programmes. Since launch, Squeezy has won multiple industry awards and become the UK’s number one paid-for medical app in the Apple App Store and consistently receives 5-star reviews from its users.

Squeezy awards include: ehi Awards 2016, Health Innovation Network 2016, National Continence Care Awards 2015/16 and was finalist for awards including Advancing Healthcare Awards 2014 and 2017, Abbvie Sustainable Healthcare Awards 2016.
