The UK is in danger of becoming a less caring society because long Covid is hitting working-age women who provide most of the country’s care much harder than other groups, a leading expert warns.

About half of the 2 million people suffering from long Covid in the UK are women between the age of 35 and 64, although it is unclear exactly why that is beyond the fact that male and female immune systems function slightly differently, according to Professor Elizabeth Murray, of University College.  Professor Murray, is a GP who is overseeing the treatment of 800 long Covid patients in 15 NHS trusts in the Living With Covid Recovery programme.
